Municipal Center ground breaking |
Ground breaking for a greener future
November 12, 2009 was an exciting day for Palmetto Bay and advocates for green buildings as ground was broken for a new Gold LEED certified municipal/Emergency Operations Center.

Congressional, State and County Representatives/partners were on hand to share in in this day. |
By going for LEED certification, Palmetto Bay is leading by example. We are “doing,” not just “talking.” We are making a huge investment in a greener, more efficient future. We are not settling for minimum certification; greater efficiency actually saves hard-earned tax dollars in future operating costs. It is the right thing to do. It is the important thing to do.

We are working to create the most environmentally friendly, most energy efficient municipal/emergency operations center in the entire state of Florida. We are working with federal, state, and county partners to lead by example and set a standard for the future. We are guaranteed Gold LEED certification which, in itself, will take us to the top. We are collectively working for Platinum “net zero” level, which is a much more difficult endeavor, but it is an important goal. I am very encouraged by the excitement and commitment of our federal, state, and county partners to help all of us achieve this goal.

This is a significant public investment and a location was chosen where the project can best aid in the revitalization of an area that is strategically important to Palmetto Bay’s commercial/economic well-being. We believe that significant private investment will follow this carefully contemplated public investment in a village hall, and stimulate positive resident-friendly growth in the middle of our live/work-, ped/bicycle-friendly charrette area, along US1 and the transportation corridor. |
