Village Picnic 2008
The 2007 Village of Palmetto Bay celebration was held at Coral Reef Park on Saturday, March 3, 2008.  This year saw 2 major new events to the picnic:

The first-ever Mayor's cup was won by Palmetto H.S.

Dunk the Mayor raised more than $1,000.00 for Autism Speaks!  $920.00 on the day of the picnic.

Thank you Waste Management for sponsoring the cost of the dunk tank so 100% of the proceeds raised could go to the charity.

Thank you Cutler Bay Mayor Vrooman who took a turn in the dunk tank.

I am posting photos from the event as they are received and as time permits.

Thanking some sponsors (photos follow and there is a link to photo page 2 at the bottom of this page as well):

A big thank you goes to Waste Management for sponsoring the cost of the dunk tank so 100% of the proceeds could go to Autism Speaks.  Waste Management also sponsored the recycling cartons that were set up throughout the park.

Thank you Grant and Michael Miller, of the Community News, for their assistance in the “Battle in the Bay,” which included organizing, promoting and providing hundreds of special tee shirts.

Thank you players, parents, staff, coaches and school administrators of Coral Reef and Palmetto Senior High Schools for the assistance and participation in the Battle in the Bay.

Thank you Special Events Committee: Donna Coughlin, Chair; Dottie Barton; Chris Berdion; Pat Gladieux; Tracey Kealey; Ralph Pozo and Victor Vincent.

Thank you to the many, many volunteers who worked so hard on this event. Entertainment included performances from local schools, the Palmetto H.S. Cheerleaders, dance troops and Choral Reef Elementary School choral ensemble.  Thank you for your participation in this event.

The event featured food (including everyone’s favorite: roast corn), games, rides, musical entertainment, and children’s activities. The children’s activities were expanded this year to include a bubble gum blowing contest, sack race, tug o war, and hula hoop contests.

Thank you village Public Works.  Once again, there was shuttle service provided by the Village’s IBUS from neighborhoods and to/from off site parking locations.

Thank you to our Village Parks & Recreation Department for its efforts and support of the annual village picnic as well as the efforts throughout the year to keep Palmetto Bay “The Village of Parks.”

We look for all Palmetto Bay residents to join us for this special celebration each year.
