The Miami-Dade County Department of Planning and Zoning has created a document that lists the Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) policies that are relevant to proposed implementation strategies for the South Dade Watershed Plan, and also identifies those strategies for which there are no existing policies. I attended the meeting held at the Deering Estate Visitors Center on Thursday, November 9. Discussed at that meeting was a plan to dramatically increase density along the US1 and other transit corridors. The Watershed Committee is presently working on a proposal that would add significant density along US1, divided within two zones, zone A, which runs for ¼ mile off US1. Zone B runs the next ¼ mile, or a total of ½ mile from US1 into the Palmetto Bay neighborhoods. Michael Davis, VP of Keith & Schnars, appeared at the Palmetto Bay Committee of the Whole meeting held on Wednesday, November 15, at my request to discuss the plan. There had been no meetings between watershed committee and any of the involved municipalities concerning any county CDMP denisity proposals. Mr. Davis claimed the numbers started about last Spring. Pinecrest Council members Joe Corradino and Nancy Harter also attended and participated in the Palmetto Bay meeting.
