Welcome
|
HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE 4th OF JULY:
This is a holiday to celebrate. This is the day we celebrate the birth of our great nation, the creation of the greatest system of freedom and democracy. All of the occurred due to the great physical and financial sacrifice of the founders of this nation, the brave men and women of yesterday and today who have sacrificed so greatly to ensure the traditions bestowed by our remarkable founders. We owe them vigilance, and the willingness to defend the democracy they have passed on to us.
Let us continue to look to a future that belongs to all of us - a future that ‘we, the people’ have the power to create.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday, and hope that the day’s happiness reminds us all of the importance of the Fourth of July.

Fourth of July Celebrations and Pets.
(article courtesy of Mangowood resident Harry Nereberg, through MECA)
More animals go missing on New Year's Eve and the July 4th holidays than any other days of the year, according to the Miami-Dade County’s Animal Services. This is because of the noise from fireworks.
Independence Day brings about a sense of pride to be living in an amazing country with abundant freedoms—moving us to celebrate with backyard barbecues, picnics, family gatherings, parties, and fireworks. Sorry to say, our four-legged friends don’t understand all the clamor and hoopla. Some pets even have noise phobias, especially with fireworks. People may ooh and aah at fireworks displays, but all that racket and commotion can create real terror in our pets. Click "Read more" to view the entire article.
Why not reward your dog with a romp in Palmetto Bay’s Dog Park on Sunday, after the fireworks the night before? Created by the Mayor and Village Council, after public input, and professionally designed, this off leash Dog Park is a very popular part of one of the best Parks systems found anywhere.
Enjoy a happy and safe Independence Day. Why not spend part of your holiday weekend in one of Palmetto Bay’s or Miami-Dade’s Parks. |

Sidewalks – designed for safe passage, not parking
Please don’t block the sidewalks in Palmetto Bay. These sidewalks are passage ways for our pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders, people with and in strollers, the elderly and those with limited mobility, especially those in wheelchairs.
This is a courtesy and an ADA issue. Pedestrians and others using these sidewalks should not have to step into the street to move around a vehicle blocking the sidewalks/walkways.
Pictured are two vehicles photographed on Sunday, May 3, 2009. |

Water Shortage – SFWMD requests local support in enforcement.
We have been asked by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to enforce the water restrictions to protect the area’s water supplies. These restrictions have been enforced for well over a year at this point. In fact, the formerly temporary rules became permanent.
Please review the complete May 1 correspondence from the SFWMD by CLICKING HERE.
Here is a link to the SFWMD water restriction web site:
https://my.sfwmd.gov/portal/page?_pageid=1874,9496104,1874_19616129&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
The Miami Herald recently published an article detailing how dry this latest period has been -- Miami has seen the driest 6 months on record for the last period. Normal is 15.24 inches. The actual for this period is 4.61, or less than one third the usual rainfall. We remain at risk for a dryer than normal season for far too long. Here is a link to that Herald article:
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami-dade/story/1024802.html
This is a serious situation. We recently had a large fire in the FPL easement off 144 and Old Cutler.
It was nice for a while that we were not enforcing water restrictions, compliance was way up, and the previous enforcement efforts were successful in gaining compliance. Pinecrest is just now starting to enforce these rules.
Please rest assured that our enforcement is out of a desire to comply with the SFWMD rules designed to protect our fresh water supply. We ask for everyone’s cooperation in preserving our precious water supply and work with the village as we enforce our codes to protect our quality of life in the village. Thank you. |

It was another great event held in the Village of Palmetto Bay and a great example of public/private partnership.
